It was another busy day for the Chicago Fire Department as they tackled a major 2-11 Alarm fire at an auto repair shop located at 221 West 65th Street. The incident, which took place on February 9th, 2016, also involved hazardous materials, classified as a Level I situation. This intense firefighting effort was captured by Dennis McGuire, Jr., who provided some striking images from the scene.
Dennis shared these words: "Here are some shots of the 2-11 today." He then added, "More photos HERE," providing a link to additional visuals. Among the images he shared were photos of the iconic Chicago FD Tower Ladder 37, heavy smoke billowing from the winter fire scene, Engine 84 in action, and Squad 1A operating at the site. Another image showcased firefighters skillfully managing a master stream to combat the flames.
Meanwhile, Josh Boyajian also documented the event, arriving after the initial 2-11 alarm had been called. Despite his later arrival, he found plenty to capture. As he explained, "There was still a lot of fire underneath the part of the roof that didn’t collapse, making it difficult for companies to direct their water streams effectively." His photos highlighted the impressive array of fire trucks and equipment deployed, including Battalion Chief 19, a snorkel truck, and multiple engines. Josh’s images offered a comprehensive view of the coordinated efforts required to bring such a blaze under control.
The scene was nothing short of chaotic but highly organized, with firefighters working tirelessly to ensure public safety. These photos not only provide a visual record of the event but also underscore the dedication and professionalism of the Chicago Fire Department. It's moments like these that remind us of the critical role first responders play in our communities.
