**BANGKOK, May 25, 2016** — The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Autodesk have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance Thailand’s manufacturing competitiveness by promoting the widespread use of advanced 3D technologies and digital manufacturing solutions. This partnership aims to support the country’s transition toward a more innovative and technology-driven economy.
Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Science and Technology, emphasized that Thailand must evolve from its current "Thailand 3.0" model to a "Thailand 4.0" framework in order to move from a middle-income to a high-income nation. He highlighted that this shift is crucial for transitioning from an economy based on performance to one driven by innovation. Industry 4.0 technologies will play a central role in this transformation, enabling manufacturers to better align with consumer needs and reduce the reliance on large-scale production facilities.
"The collaboration with global leaders like Autodesk will empower local SMEs to adopt digital tools in their design and manufacturing processes," said Dr. Pichet. "This initiative also helps develop Thai talent to meet the demands of the future manufacturing industry, supporting key government objectives in sectors such as biotechnology, renewable energy, engineering, and the creative economy."
The NSTDA and Autodesk are working together to establish a 'Digital Manufacturing Platform' as part of Thailand’s National Digital Economy Master Plan. This platform will provide up to 100,000 engineers and vocational professionals with access to Autodesk's 3D design, simulation, and collaboration tools for three years through a subscription model.
Dr. Thaweesak Koanantakool, President of NSTDA, stated, "Digital manufacturing is essential for Thailand’s economic growth. By equipping local businesses with cutting-edge tools and fostering talent development, we can help the country stay competitive in a rapidly evolving global market."
Two key technologies included in the platform are Autodesk Fusion 360 and A360 Team. Fusion 360 combines CAD, CAM, and CAE into one integrated platform, making it easier for teams to design, simulate, and collaborate across devices. A360 provides a centralized space for project management and team collaboration, streamlining workflows and improving efficiency.
Mr. Rama Tiwari, Regional Director of Sales at Autodesk ASEAN, noted, "Technologies such as IoT, augmented reality, robotics, and 3D printing are reshaping the manufacturing landscape. The Digital Manufacturing Platform gives Thai companies and professionals the tools they need to innovate and lead in the future of production."
Beyond the Digital Manufacturing Platform, the partnership includes joint research initiatives and the development of technology infrastructure to support Thailand’s Smart Cities program.
