The Orland Fire Protection District is preparing to kick off a major remodeling project for Station #2. This facility, located at the intersection of 151st and 80th Avenue, first opened its doors back in 1980. Initially constructed to house volunteer firefighters, the station started out with just one bay and a small space that combined an office, kitchen, and lounge area. At the time, it wasn't designed to support round-the-clock operations or full-time staffing. However, as demand for emergency services grew over the years, so too did the role of Station #2. Numerous upgrades have been made since its inception to allow for overnight stays and continuous operational availability. Additional bays were constructed, and the kitchen/lounge area was expanded to better serve the needs of the growing team. Despite these modifications, due to the numerous renovations and expansions that have taken place, bringing Station #2 up to modern codes and standards would only provide a temporary fix. Recognizing this, the Orland Fire Protection District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a comprehensive remodel of Station #2 during their June 2013 meeting. The construction work is set to commence this autumn, with an estimated completion timeline of around eight weeks. Attached is an artist's rendering of what the updated Station #2 will look like.
