One standout unit is the Clarendon Hills Fire Department’s 1986 TeleSqurt from Pierce, built on a Mack CF chassis. Painted white over bright yellow, this engine (Engine 349) featured a 1,500-GPM pump and carried 500 gallons of water. Larry Shapiro captured this iconic piece of firefighting history.
The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District has long been known for its red and white apparatus. Their fleet recently saw a shift as they retired one of the last lime-green units in favor of a new solid red engine. This change marks a transition from a once-dominant green palette to a more traditional red and white scheme.
Riverside Fire Department had a Seagrave engine painted in a classic green, which was part of their fleet for many years. They also added another lime-green rig, showing how green remained a popular choice for some departments during that era.
