The Wheeling Fire Department got multiple calls about a fire on the roof of a largely vacant, single-story strip mall located at 1786 W. Hintz Road early Sunday morning (May 10, 2015), just after 9 AM. As the responding units made their way there, they could already see a plume of black smoke rising in the distance. The fire was specifically on the back portion of the roof, where the building sees less activity.
Buffalo Grove Tower 25 positioned themselves in the nearby alley and deployed their master stream to tackle the flames, while Wheeling firefighters worked on the roof using a 2 1/2-inch hose line. The affected area was estimated to be around 20 square feet.
Attached below are a few photos and a short video clip from the scene. For more images, you can visit shapirophotography.net.

I hope this gives everyone a clearer picture of what happened. It was quite an intense situation, but thanks to the quick response of the fire teams, it didn't escalate further. If anyone has questions or wants to share their own experience from the scene, feel free to reach out!
