Jingmen Petrochemical builds new benzene extraction plant and drives successfully

Recently, the 110,000-ton-per-year benzene extraction unit at Jingmen Petrochemical, designed by Qingdao Yingpeier Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. and constructed by Hubei Jinshi Refining & Chemical Construction Co., Ltd., has been successfully commissioned. The facility is producing high-quality products that meet the design specifications, enabling the company to manufacture premium clean gasoline that aligns with the EU III standards. This marks a significant step forward in the company's strategy to produce more environmentally friendly fuels. The plant includes several key sections: pre-fractionation, extraction, solvent recovery and regeneration, and aromatics refining. It utilizes a patented extraction and distillation process developed by the Sinopec Petrochemical Research Institute. The feedstock comes from the upstream reformer as de-pentane oil, and a sulfolane-based solvent system is employed. This system offers excellent operational stability and high aromatic yield, especially in the benzene extraction distillation column. The production of high-value benzene not only enhances the product structure but also ensures that the gasoline meets the 1% benzene content requirement of Euro III standard fuel. This improvement makes the fuel more eco-friendly while boosting Jingmen Petrochemical’s responsiveness to market demands and increasing the return on investment per unit. Additionally, the recovered benzene can be sold as a raw material for chemical plants, further optimizing profitability and product value. This project represents a major advancement in both technology and sustainability for the company.
