Jingmen Petrochemical builds new benzene extraction plant and drives successfully

Recently, the 110,000-ton-per-year benzene extraction facility at Jingmen Petrochemical, designed by Qingdao Yingpeier Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. and constructed by Hubei Jinshi Refining & Chemical Construction Co., Ltd., has been successfully launched. The plant is now producing high-quality products that meet all design specifications, enabling the company to achieve premium clean gasoline that aligns with the EU III standards. This marks a significant step forward in the company's environmental and operational strategy. The 110,000 t/y benzene extraction plant consists of several key sections: pre-fractionation, extraction, solvent recovery and regeneration, and aromatics refinement. It utilizes the patented extraction and distillation technology developed by the Petrochemical Research Institute of Sinopec Corp. The feedstock comes from the upstream reformer as depentane oil, and the process employs a sulfolane-based complex solvent system. This system offers excellent operational stability and a high yield of aromatics in the benzene extraction distillation column, contributing to the overall efficiency of the plant. Moreover, the high-value benzene produced not only enhances the product structure but also ensures that Jingmen Petrochemical’s premium clean gasoline meets the strict requirement of having no more than 1% benzene content, as specified by Euro III standards. This improvement makes the fuel more environmentally friendly while boosting the company’s ability to meet market demands and increasing the return on investment per unit of product. Additionally, the extracted benzene can be sold as a raw material for chemical plants, further optimizing the value chain and maximizing profitability. This successful project demonstrates Jingmen Petrochemical’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence, positioning it well for future growth in the competitive energy market.
