China Federation of Automobiles Annual Meeting: Steady and Healthy Development of China's Motor Sports in 2005
In 2005, the Chinese automobile sports sector experienced steady and healthy growth. Clubs and organizers at all levels demonstrated great dedication, passion, and professionalism throughout the year. They successfully completed all tasks set at the beginning of the year, achieving key goals such as team building, experience accumulation, and promoting the long-term development of motorsports in China.
At the 2005 Annual Working Conference of the China Association of Automobile Sports, held on December 22, Wan Heping, Secretary General of the China Automobile Federation, highlighted the progress made in the past year. He emphasized that 2005 was a crucial year for the development of motorsports in China. By the end of the year, the federation had registered 168 member companies, 1,147 athletes, and 34 racing teams. A total of 71 events were held, setting new records in history.
"Hosting major international events has played an irreplaceable role in promoting motorsports in China," said Wan Heping. In 2005, the FIA staged the final race of the Formula One World Championship in Shanghai, making the Shanghai International Circuit once again a global focal point. The event concluded the season successfully. That same year, the FIA GT Championship took place at Zhuhai Motor Speedway, while the Australian V8 Touring Car Race was also held at the Shanghai Circuit. Additionally, the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship returned to Guangdong's Shaoguan, where three events were held. The successful organization of these races received widespread praise from foreign drivers and FIA officials alike.
Meanwhile, national championships continued to grow sustainably. Events like the National Auto Rally Championship, National Short Track Rally Championship, National Auto Stadium Championship, National Auto Land Cross Country Championships, and the China Cross Country Championships were all held successfully. Alongside these, numerous regional and national events took place across the country, including the National Truck Race, POLO Cup Competition, Kunming Dongchuan Motocross Race, Lop Nur Desert Cross Country Challenge, Circle Tower Cross Country Challenge, East China Auto Area Cross-country Race, Yulong Snow Mountain Autocross Race, and the Lhasa-Kathmandu International Auto Setup Race. These events, held in diverse terrains and environments, helped expand the scope of motorsports in China and introduced new types of competitions, generating positive social impact and gaining popularity among motorsport fans.
