China Federation of Automobiles Annual Meeting: Steady and Healthy Development of China's Motor Sports in 2005
In 2005, the Chinese automobile sports scene experienced steady and healthy growth. Clubs and organizers at all levels demonstrated remarkable dedication, passion, and professionalism in their work. They successfully completed the tasks set at the beginning of the year, achieving key goals such as team building, experience accumulation, and promoting the long-term development of auto sports in China.
At the 2005 Annual Working Conference of the China Association of Automobile Sports, held on December 22, Wan Heping, Secretary General of the China Automobile Federation, highlighted these achievements during his annual review. He emphasized that 2005 was a crucial year for the development of motorsports in China.
By the end of the year, the China Automobile Federation had registered 168 member companies, with 1,147 athletes and 34 racing teams officially registered. A total of 71 events were held throughout the year, marking the highest level ever recorded in the history of Chinese motorsports.
"Hosting large-scale international events plays an irreplaceable role in promoting motorsports in China," said Wan Heping. In 2005, the FIA World Formula One Championship concluded in China, with the Shanghai International Circuit once again becoming the center of global motorsport attention. The successful event marked a triumphant end to the season's F1 championship. That same year, the FIA GT Championship took place at the Zhuhai Motor Speedway, while the Australian V8 Touring Car Race was also held at the Shanghai Circuit. Additionally, the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship made a significant stop in Guangdong’s Shaoguan, which had previously hosted three events of the series. The smooth operation of the competition received widespread praise from international drivers and high commendation from FIA officials.
Moreover, national championships entered a phase of sustainable development. Events like the National Automobile Rally Championship, the National Short Track Rally Championship, the National Auto Stadium Championship, and the National Land Cross Country Championships were all successfully held. Alongside these, numerous regional and national events took place across the country, including the National Truck Race, the POLO Cup, the Kunming Dongchuan Motocross Race, and the Lop Nur Desert Cross Country Challenge. Other notable events included the Circle Tower Cross Country Challenge, the East China Auto Area Cross-Country Race, the Yulong Snow Mountain Autocross Race, and the Lhasa-Kathmandu International Auto Setup Race.
These events, held in diverse terrains and environments, contributed significantly to the growth of motorsports and expanded the scope for new types of competitions. They generated positive social impact and were widely appreciated by automotive sports enthusiasts.
