Thursday evening, I caught wind of a fire incident happening in a high-rise building. The address was 3245 South Prairie Avenue. As soon as I arrived on the scene, things were already unfolding quickly. Battalion 2 had already called for a Box & Plan, indicating they were dealing with what seemed like a significant fire on the second floor of this nine-story structure.
When I got there, smoke was billowing from the rear of the building, specifically from the second floor. It wasn’t immediately visible from the street, but once Engine 19 arrived, they managed to stretch a long hose line toward the affected area. The fire was concentrated in one of the rooms at the back of the building. Despite the initial challenge of reaching it due to its location, firefighters worked efficiently and managed to bring the flames under control fairly quickly.
The situation seemed serious at first glance, but thanks to the swift response and coordinated efforts of the Chicago Fire Department, the fire didn’t spread beyond that specific room. It’s always reassuring to see how well-trained and prepared these firefighters are, especially when it comes to managing incidents in such tall buildings where every second counts.
Here are some photos I took during the incident. These images capture the intensity of the moment and the dedication of the crews involved. The first set shows the smoke rising from the building, giving a clear indication of the severity of the situation. In another shot, you can see Engine 19 hard at work, with firefighters focused on extinguishing the flames. There are also images of the firefighters in action, demonstrating their teamwork and professionalism.
These photos serve as a reminder of the risks these brave men and women face daily while protecting our communities. It’s humbling to witness firsthand their ability to handle crises with skill and composure.
