On Tuesday morning, I was walking by Sherman Hospital when I noticed the Elgin Fire Department setting up for what looked like a dive rescue drill at the lake nearby. It was pretty cool to see them in action. The equipment on display included Engine 5 (2015 E-One), Engine 3, a Seagrave, Medic 1, and another engine that appeared to be from the same fleet.
One thing that stood out was Engine 5, which had a bell mounted on its side. I learned later that this bell was taken from their old rig, a 2001 KME. It’s always interesting to see how departments preserve parts of their history while updating their fleet.
