Are your Scion xB power windows acting up? Is one of them stuck or failing to operate properly? Don't worry—here’s a comprehensive guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve many of the most common issues related to your vehicle's power windows.

Scion xB Power Window Failure Guide

Is your Scion xB having trouble with its power windows? Follow this guide to get them working again.

While power windows offer convenience, their malfunction can be incredibly frustrating. Without manual control over your windows, you’ll face ongoing challenges. Fortunately, many issues can be resolved fairly easily with the right steps.

Power Window Regulator Malfunction

One of the most frequent problems with power windows is a faulty window regulator motor. This motor is responsible for moving the window up and down. If it fails, your window may no longer stay in position and could drop unexpectedly. If pressing the button doesn’t work and the window keeps falling, it’s time to replace the regulator.

To replace the regulator, follow these general steps:

  1. Start by finding the correct replacement part.
  2. Next, disconnect the negative terminal of the car battery to ensure safety while working.
  3. Inspect the door panel thoroughly for all screws securing the plastic cover. These screws might be located in visible areas like near the handle or hidden spots like behind the speaker.
  4. Once all screws are removed, gently pry the plastic door panel away from the metal using a door panel removal tool or a flathead screwdriver. Be cautious as the plastic can crack easily.
  5. As you detach the panel, you’ll hear a popping noise as the clips release.
  6. After freeing the panel, lift it upwards and away from the metal door. Look for an electrical connection between the power window controls and the door interior. Disconnect these components before proceeding further.
  7. With the panel fully detached, you’ll see a plastic shroud covering the window mechanism. Carefully peel this back to expose the window and the regulator motor.
  8. Compare the new regulator with the old one to determine its orientation and how it functions.
  9. Usually, you’ll need to unscrew some parts and then swap out the regulator unit.
  10. Once the new regulator is installed, reassemble everything by reversing the previous steps.

Window Off Track

Another potential issue is that the window may have come off its track. Although uncommon in modern vehicles, this can still happen.

To check if your window has come off track, follow the same process of removing the door panel as outlined above. Inspect the window carefully and try sliding it up and down, paying close attention to the tracks. The problem will likely become apparent after some experimentation. The solution will depend on the specific issue identified.

Fuse Replacement

If both your door locks and windows are nonfunctional, it’s probable that the fuse is blown. The fuse box typically contains a fuse labeled “Doors/Windows.” Replacing this fuse with a new one should solve the problem.
