This is from Dennis McGuire, Jr.:

Chicago Still & Box 8240 S. Justine Ave – 2-3-2015
It was around 1 AM when Engine 73 responded to a two-story, 50x75 residential structure with heavy fire in the rear enclosed porches. The weather had been brutal—19 inches of snow the day before and temperatures at 8 degrees with a wind chill near zero. Because of the conditions, the officer called for the Box. I arrived shortly after the fire was under control, and the crews were doing overhaul on the scene.

It was really something to see how the crews worked through the cold and snow. The fire had spread quickly, and the porch area was fully involved. The snow made it hard to maneuver, but everyone stayed focused. I remember walking through the debris and seeing the damage up close—it was a tough call for the crew. These kinds of incidents remind you why we do what we do. I took these photos to show the conditions and the effort it takes to get the job done.
