This message is from Eric Haak: --- Around 3:00 PM on Wednesday (August 3rd), the Chicago Fire Department received a call about a fire at 3110 W. Fillmore. When the responding units arrived, they found a significant fire and initiated a full-scale response. Engine 44 was the first unit on the scene, reporting a blaze in a single-story commercial garage. The fire location was less than half a mile away from Engine 107's station. Engines 44 and 109 were designated as the primary engines, while Engines 23 and 95 were dispatched as part of the initial response. Engine 99 was also assigned to manage a nearby hydrant. Battalion 14 requested additional resources shortly after arriving and provided an assessment: a one-story structure measuring approximately 100 feet by 75 feet, adjacent to a two-story ordinary building measuring 25 feet by 50 feet with rear porches, where the fire had spread to the second floor. The first image shown here was captured roughly 20 minutes into the incident. It turns out that the fire was actually burning in two separate abandoned commercial buildings in the middle of the complex, with some exposure affecting Eddie’s Towing, which fortunately sustained minimal damage. I heard Engines 5, 18, and 26 were sent as reinforcements for the second alarm, so I don't think Engine 107 ever made it to the scene. --- Here are some photos taken by Eric Haak during the incident: ![](Chicago FD Truck 54 at a fire scene) Caption: Chicago FD Truck 54 at a fire scene *(Photo credit: Eric Haak)* ![](firefighters with big hose lines) Caption: Firefighters maneuvering large hose lines *(Photo credit: Eric Haak)* ![](Chicago FD Engine 109 with lines off) Caption: Chicago FD Engine 109 operating with lines deployed *(Photo credit: Eric Haak)* ![](Chicago FD Engine 99 on a hydrant) Caption: Chicago FD Engine 99 securing water from a hydrant *(Photo credit: Eric Haak)* ![](African American firefighters with hose line) Caption: African American firefighters deploying a hose line *(Photo credit: Eric Haak)* ![](fire through the roof of a commercial building) Caption: Fire raging through the roof of a commercial building *(Photo credit: Eric Haak)* ![](Chicago FD Engine 23) Caption: Chicago FD Engine 23 on the scene *(Photo credit: Eric Haak)* --- This event highlights the dedication and hard work of the Chicago Fire Department in managing complex fires like this one.
