Last week, Evanston was hit by a 2-11 alarm fire on Oak Street. The blaze broke out in a historic Victorian mansion that was currently undergoing renovation to be transformed into a clock and stained glass museum. The incident drew significant attention from local media, with detailed coverage available on the TribLocal, the Tribune, and a short video posted online.

Among the photos is a striking image of Evanston Truck 22, a Pierce TDA, operating in the 'A' sector at the fire. Another powerful shot shows a panoramic view of the fire site, highlighting the intensity of the situation.
A neighbor shared a video of the event on YouTube, offering a firsthand look at the scene. The footage captures the chaos and the efforts of firefighters working to contain the flames.
Steve Redick also captured several other moments, including a shot of Evanston Engine 23, the department’s newest unit, pumping water from an alley behind the burning building. Another image features Truck 23, also a Pierce TDA, laddering the exposure building that had to be evacuated due to heavy smoke.
A view from down the street shows Engine 24 in action, while another photo highlights the thick smoke that made visibility difficult for firefighters and residents alike. A hydrant was strategically placed at the end of the block, with Engine 22, a 2003 Pierce Dash equipped with a 1,500-GPM pump, stationed nearby.
Additional units from neighboring departments, such as Glenview Engine 6, Morton Grove Squad 4, and DesPlaines Tower 81, were also seen in staging areas as the fire continued to burn. Winnetka Engine 28 was also on standby, having recently returned from maintenance that included a new door seal, updated graphics, and a fresh black paint job on the roof.
The fire served as a reminder of the importance of emergency preparedness and the dedication of first responders in protecting lives and property.
