Common occasions for internal amalgamation

When flotation, re-election or cyanidation is used as the main method of gold extraction, externally mixed mercury is usually used as an auxiliary means, as discussed above. When the amalgamation method is used as the main method of gold extraction, internal amalgamation is generally used. Internally mixed mercury is generally carried out in equipment such as skimmers, ball mills , and amalgam mills , and the amalgamation plate is only used as an auxiliary means to recover fine-grained gold and amalgam overflowing from equipment such as skimmers. Gold mines often use internal amalgam to treat heavy sand and recover gold from re-concentrated concentrates. In this case, a common mercury cartridge is used as a mercury amalgamation device.
Internally mixed mercury is more efficient than externally mixed mercury, and the poison caused is less than that of externally mixed mercury. Its main problem is the easy pulverization of mercury. Mercury is difficult to separate from the ore being treated, most of the mercury is lost, and some gold is taken away with the mercury. The lost powdered mercury often contains 3 to 15% of gold.
