Josh Boyajian witnessed a house fire in Cicero on Sunday night and provided the following account: A basement fire broke out at 1225 59th Avenue around midnight. Engine 1 was the first to arrive and immediately saw heavy smoke coming from the basement. Truck 2 took control of Sector 1 and began laddering the roof to check for any trapped individuals. Engine 1 made a quick entry through the back door, using a 2 1/2-inch hose line to begin suppression efforts. I snapped a few photos with my phone to capture the scene as it unfolded. The firefighters worked quickly and efficiently under challenging conditions. The fire appeared to be well-ventilated, but the smoke was still thick and visible from the street. It’s clear that the crew was focused and prepared, responding with professionalism and precision. Here are some photos from the incident: [Image: Cicero_120115_054-JB] [Image: Cicero_120115_055-JB] [Image: Cicero_120115_056-JB] [Image: Cicero_120115_060-JB] [Image: Cicero_120115_061-JB] It’s always sobering to see these kinds of emergencies up close. Firefighters face dangerous situations every day, and it’s reassuring to know they’re trained and ready. This was just one of many calls they handle, but it reminded me of the importance of their work and the courage it takes to do it.
