1.8L Price 156,000 Elantra Christmas listing challenge Excelle
The 1.8L Elantra is now available at a starting price of 156,000 yuan for the manual version and 166,800 yuan for the automatic variant. This marks a significant move by Beijing Hyundai as they prepare to launch the mid-size sedan in the Chinese market. Compared to the luxurious Excelle model, the Elantra offers a more competitive price, saving customers around 13,000 yuan. The 1.6L Elantra is expected to be introduced next year, further expanding the range.
Starting from December 18th, Beijing Hyundai dealers nationwide will begin accepting reservations for the Elantra. A grand unveiling ceremony will take place on December 23rd, with special events scheduled for December 25th across the country. This event will allow consumers from all over the world to experience the elegance and sophistication of this globally recognized vehicle.
Beijing Hyundai has completed the second phase of its basic renovation project, paving the way for mass production of the Elantra after its release at the end of the year. The company's two flagship models, Sonata and Elantra, have already captured over 10% of the market share in their respective segments.
Elantra outperforms the Excelle in several aspects. Since its debut in Korea in October 1990, the Elantra has sold over 3 million units worldwide. In the first half of this year alone, it ranked third in imported car sales in Europe. In the U.S., it became an instant hit since its introduction in 1991, dominating the modern car sales charts.
The Beijing version of the Elantra is based on the sixth-generation model, specially adapted for Chinese road conditions and climate. It features a dignified and elegant design, available in eight color options: warm yellow, champagne silver, romantic red, elegant green, passion blue, noble white, flash silver, and ebony black. With a length of 4,525 mm, width of 1,435 mm, and height of 1,435 mm, it closely matches the size of the Excelle, but with a 10 mm longer wheelbase for improved comfort.
The Elantra comes with two engine options: 1.6L and 1.8L. The 1.8L dual overhead camshaft four-cylinder engine delivers strong power and low fuel consumption, with a maximum power output of 95.6 kW and torque of 162 N·m—7.6 kW and 4 N·m higher than the 1.8L version. The 1.6L variant also performs well, with 82.4 kW and 143 N·m.
The suspension system includes front MacPherson struts and rear composite torsion beam, along with four gas-filled shock absorbers that provide a smooth ride even on uneven roads. The 195/60R15 tires ensure stability and comfort.
To enhance driving comfort, the Elantra incorporates noise and vibration reduction measures. Insulating panels are used in the hood to minimize engine noise, while sound-absorbing materials are applied to the windshield, dashboard, roof, and floor. Polyurethane foam fills the pillar cavities, further reducing noise levels.
In terms of safety and convenience, the Elantra is equipped with a comprehensive set of features. It includes adjustable leather seats with drilling technology, a touch-type seat warmer controller, and a second-generation control system with power-saving functions. The car also supports automatic light shut-off, internal light brightness control, key activation alarm, and optional keyless entry.
Safety features include standard ABS anti-lock brakes, front dual airbags, and optional side curtain airbags for enhanced protection during side impacts. Additional safety systems include door-to-door collision prevention and child protection windows.
The braking system consists of front-wheel-mounted disc brakes with a 10-inch hydraulic regulator and metered valve, ensuring reliable stopping power. The rear axle is equipped with a self-adjusting drum brake. Optional anti-lock adds pressure regulators and an electronic brake force distribution system for better performance during short-range braking.
Other notable features include a six-channel in-car entertainment system, auto-folding side mirrors, and power windows. Overall, the Elantra offers a compelling combination of style, performance, and value for the Chinese market.
