The construction of the redevelopment project began in March 2009. It is the first environmental protection project that Jinchuan Group has promised to use for three years to achieve comprehensive treatment of smelter flue gas, with a total investment of 128 million yuan. It uses 400,000 tons/year ion-exchange membrane caustic soda as raw material to recycle low-concentration sulfur dioxide fume from rotary kiln and electric furnace to form 100,000 tons/year anhydrous sodium sulfite and 50,000 tons/year sodium sulfite heptahydrate. Digestion of low-concentration flue gas, which is by-product, has a cost advantage. It provides a guarantee for the balance of sulfuric acid and chlor-alkali systems. It also extends the chemical industry chain such as hydrochloric acid and caustic soda. There are more paper mills within 500 kilometers around Jinchuan.
